The cardiac cycle involves all parts of the heart. The aorta is the biggest and longest artery in the body. The aorta carries oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to the whole body. The inferior vena cava is a large vein deoxygenated blood to the right atrium from the lower half of the body. The left atrium is the upper left chamber of the heart. It receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs via the pulmonary vein. The left ventricle is the lower left chamber of the heart. It pumps the blood through the aortic valve into the aorta and all over the body. The mitral valve is the valve that allows blood flow from the left atrium into the left ventricle. When it closes it prevents the back-flow of blood from the ventricle to the atrium. The…show more content…
Once the ventricle contracts the vavle opens and blood enters the pulmonary artery. When the blood passes the valve closes and prevents the backflow of blood from the pulmonary artery. The pulmonary vein is the blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium. The right atrium is the upper right chamber of the heart. It receives deoxygenated blood from the body via the inferior vena cava and the superior vena cava. The right ventricle is the lower right chamber of the heart. It pumps the blood into the pulmonary artery. The septum is the muscular wall that separates the left and right sides of the heart. The superior vena cava is a large vein that carries deoxygenated blood into the right atrium from the upper parts of the body. The tricuspid valve is a flap between the right atrium and the right ventricle. It prevents the back-flow of blood from the ventricle to the atrium.…show more content…
