The Boston Marathon is an annual event that was first run in April 1897, starting out with only 10 runners each following year it grew in popularity (www.baaorg). In 1966 the first woman ran unofficially in the race, it was not until 1972 that women were officially allow entering the race. This race attracts people from around the world and continues to grow in popularity. In 2013 the race was just like any other race day, until 2:49PM EST. This was when the Boston Marathon became another terrorist event on American soil. The Boston Marathon is an annual event that takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, which began in 1897. The first marathon consisted of just 10 runners while the 119th running of the marathon consisted of over 500,000 runners from many different countries that included not only professional and regular runners but runners with disabilities (www.baa.org). On April 15, 2013 at 2:49PM EST everything changed, explosions were heard and felt near the finish line of the marathon, which killed 3 people and injured more than 260 (www.govtech.com). Within minutes of the incident local, state and federal law enforcement were on the scene to assist the BPD in any way necessary. The bombing took place on April 15, 2013 and by 5:00PM on April 18, 2013 the FBI was releasing photos of the bombing suspects, which at the time were believed to be related (www.fbi.gov). By April 19, 2013 the JTTF had made the arrest of the bombing suspects (the eldest brother was killed during the incident) and on the 22nd officially charged the remaining suspect with using and conspiring to use a WMD against person/property within the US that ended in death (www.fbi.gov).
