Reinstating the Draft “The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country” This quote, said by George S. Patton Jr., explains how important our military soldiers are to this county, the United States of America. There is a long, traditional history behind the men that fought for our country. Some were courageous and volunteered, but some were forced to join by something called a draft. This lasted from 1940 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict or war. The arguments and emotions that come out of this topic has weakened this country, and decreased our union. When you stand in front the American flag you say, “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which is stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” The people in this country needs to focus on the words, one nation. That is how we represent America, together as one body of people sharing the same goals and passions. Fighting over this argument is separating our nation. If everyone would bear the burden, then everyone would share the cost. Our national spirit has decreased, and we need to build it back. By getting everyone on the same page, then there will be a better understanding of the reasons for reinstating the draft. By bringing our nation together with one idea of improving our military forces, and ultimately our country, people will buy into the reason for this and the spirit of our nation will increase. There are so many men and women that have served our country in a very honorable way, and coming out with many success stories. Why not give that opportunities to our young and courageous society. There have been arguments for and against reinstating the draft. There are many, very powerful reasons why the United States armed forced should: the military itself would advance, showing respect for our country, improve our national unity, and greatly benefit the younger generation. We live in an amazing, powerful country that does the best for its people and what it stands for. The least we, as the people, can do it stand tall and defend our country with pride and dignity.
