Argumentative Essay On Gun Violence

286 Words2 Pages
The prevention of firearm morbidity and mortality is one of the most complex and controversial issues facing the public health profession in recent years. Members of both the medical and public health communities consider gun violence not only a criminal justice issue but also a public health threat. It is paramount to move away from the archaic Second Amendment Constitution arguments and partisan political ideologies and highlight the toll gun violence takes on public health. The ultimate goal is to reduce the incidence of gun violence in the same way public health targeted polio, smoking-related cancer, and car accidents. It is estimated that firearms kill more than 32,000 persons in the United States annually, or approximately 88 per day.
