“You cannot legislate evil out of this world gentlemen. In the end you are going to have to give good men guns and set them loose” (Minuteman Militia, 2015). American Citizens see evil every single day on city streets. Examples of it are plastered on televisions by the media, as well as displayed on social media sites for the world to see. Evil is natural, it is prevalent, and it is powerful. Many legislators, as well as citizens, feel that evil can be beaten. They feel that the evil that exists in our world can be controlled, or even lessened, by the enactment of laws. They feel that laws, such as the laws pertaining to gun control, will rid the world of much of the evil that exists, and in turn make the world a safer place. This researcher…show more content…
Lieutenant Rafanelli is a Law Enforcement Officer with the Gwinnett County Police Department, which is located in the Atlanta suburbs. One of the questions asked of Mr. Rafanelli was if he felt that gun control laws would assist in lessening the amount of evil that we see in the world today. He seemed to agree with this researcher when he stated that “It is ridiculous for one to think that by making more laws, that it would make a criminal follow them. The only thing laws do are restrict law abiding people. A criminal doesn’t walk up to a building, see the ‘No Weapons Allowed’ sign and leave. Law abiding gun owners do” (C. Rafanelli, personal communication, September 19, 2015). If a law enforcement officer, a person who willingly walks into dangerous situations on a daily basis, thinks that gun control is a bad idea, then why do the legislators in Washington think it is a good idea?
