To know what he did, you need to know some background information about him. Linus Carl Pauling was born in Portland, Oregon, on February 28, 1901. His dad, Herman, was a pharmacist, and his mother, Lucy was the daughter of a pharmacist. His parents encouraged his education. Later on in his life Pauling went to Oregon Agricultural College. He eventually became a teacher, he later married one of his students, Ava Helen Miller. The couple had four children. He published some of his works in his 1939 book, The Nature of the Chemical Bond. It is considered to be the foundation of modern chemistry. In 1954 Linus was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. He won many awards throughout his life. He was a genius. He died on August 19, 1994.
