1984 (Mythological Approach) In George Orwells 1984, he uses many different archeytpes like the hero, the shadow, the shapeshifter, and the villain. The main character, Winston Smith, is used as the hero archetype. The hero archetype is described as someone who "must go on a journey, learn a lesson, change in some way, and return home" ("Archetypes for Literary Analysis"). O'Brien can fit for many of the archetypes.
