All Things Shining is a book written by Hubert Dreyfus and Sean Dorrance Kelly. The book was published January 4, 2011. The thesis of the book is “The shining, sacred moments that were once part of life are almost gone in our contemporary secular world. We have lost our sense of adventure, excitement, rapture, trill, and meaning” (p. 14). The goal of the authors in All Things Shining is “to bring us from despair to hope” (p. 14). Nihilism: “a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and that existence is senseless and useless; a doctrine that denies any objective ground of truth and especially of moral truths.” (Webster’s Dictionary) Dante believes the opposite of this definition. Every aspect of the universe has a sacred meaning written on its sleeve. “This is about as anti-nihilistic a universe as one can imagine.
