Despite the primitive lifestyle of the Yanomami, their systems of belief and expression including religious view are rather sophisticated. The universe is constructed of four layers according to their beliefs and the third layer is the ground they live upon. They believe the topmost layer is empty, and the sky, which is the second layer from the top, is known to have its surface just as their own with plants and animals and it is the afterlife world. The third layer is believed to have created when a section of the sky layer cracked off and toppled down.
