There are two specific genders within the Yanomami culture, male and female. Like many cultures, patriarchal characteristics are dominant and women’s position in society is much lower than men. That is, women are inferior and subordinate to men. The main role of the females is the child bearing and productive roles in their household which they start at an early age. Gender roles are strictly defined in the culture and married women are subject to physical violence by their husbands if they fail
Many people, including researchers and scientists, may have different views of what is to be considered “ethical” and “unethical”. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) was put in place for that very reason; to protect the rights and well-being of people involved in research, according to certain ethical guidelines or “common rules”. In my opinion, I believe that the IRB does an adequate job regulating and setting specifications for research while still granting some freedoms to fellow researchers
