For this essay i will be comparing the characters of Wickus from the movie district 9 and then the girl from “Lusus naturae". I have chosen these two characters because they both go from a state of oppressing to bring oppressed. The representation of the character from “Lusus Naturae" and Wickus from district 9 is that they’re marginalised and alienated from society.
The girl from “Lusus" is represented as a monster, a human that has had some sort of curse to alter her physical appearance and then in turn become some sort of monster, unacceptable for anyone to see. Wickus has this is common, going from a human to a character that is seen as lower class. They’re both represented like this to show a comparison between classes, between those…show more content… Within “Lusus" there is a dark atmosphere and limited dialogue in comparison to “Lusus" who very frequently voices his opinions. The text “Lusus" starts with the terms “What could be done with me, What should be done with me?” it’s already foreshadowing something is wrong, and that it wont be pleasant unlike District 9 where it’s a gradual change from human to prawn. Also they way that each of the characters are shown to the society of their texts, the girl from “Lusus" is hidden away from their society, only their family can know and then after her fake death only her mother sees her, while in district 9 he is shown everywhere, and seen as an abnormality and all society is keeping up with it. Also the way that each character is portrayed by themselves is very different, the girl is implicitly showing that it isn’t just a physical condition but a mental one as well since she was hearing voices, that she drinks blood and needs to eat potatoes, while Wickus' transformation is purely phyisical in the fact that there aren’t any mental changes, he isn’t seen as crazy, but they’re both seen as freaks of nature, both alienated from society and
