In the play, “The Crucible”, Arthur Miller expresses that John Proctor was an innocent man who was wrongly accused for witchcraft to represent all the innocent people who were accused of communism in the McCarthy trials. He supports this claim by first showing how John Proctor lives a peaceful, Christian lifestyle. John was a simple man that at one time had an affair outside of his marriage with Abigail Williams, who was a young girl who lusted over him and tried to destroy his marriage. She attempted all of this by faking that she was under the hulusionation of witchcraft and then accuses many innocent people of committing witchcraft.
