In J.R.R. Tolkien’s book The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins completes the hero’s journey when he goes off with a band of dwarves to recover their kingdom and defeat the dragon, Smaug. Throughout the story, Bilbo undergoes the departure of his home, the initiation and hardships of the quest, and his return home. He learns things about himself that he never knew before and in the end, becomes a better person that is wiser and more confident. In the beginning of the book, Bilbo lives in his little hobbit hole in a neighborhood called The Hill. His home is nice and neat and he is a very respected hobbit.
