Take out Is and yous Proposal: A Great American Pastime or Animal Cruelty Rationale For years and years, rodeo has been a part of American culture. Anyone who has been to a rodeo can see this as the U.S. flag is proudly ridden around the arena and the “Star Spangled Banner” is played. The rodeo is a place where cowboys exhibit their skills in rodeo events, such as steer roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bull riding, and calf roping. Many animal right groups such as Show Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK), the Humane Society of United States, and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), have done all they can to bring the sport of rodeo to a stop as they see these events as unethical when it comes to the treatment of animals. They have done everything from protesting to local authorities, writing letters to sponsors, bringing leaflets to the gate, holding demonstrations, and working to institute state and local bans on rodeo shows. So are rodeo events a great source of American pride and culture or are they just plain cruel and inhumane? The PRCA has taken great measures in ensuring the proper treatment of all animals in rodeo. Many rules and regulations have been implemented since the birth of organized rodeo to protect the wellbeing of the animals, as well as the contestants. .…show more content…
