This two poems “Unferth” and “The Wife's Lament” develop the theme of betrayal and anger. The reason is because the first poem of Unferth talks about how Unferth is a drunk man but ready for everything however his a betrayal to his brothers that he murdered for jealousy. For instance, when there talking about swimming through the sea Beowulf states “his boast that he could swim better than you. so i am sure you will pay a heavy price” (443). Means that Unferth is jealous to those that are better than him so he berates them. The second poem talks about a women being alone if the wood because her husband had betrayed her.
