This tragedy occurred because of neglect and selfishness. The construction of the building was flawed from the start and because there was, “quick growth in the garment industry[, it] had resulted in fast construction of factories, often at the expense of adhering to the building codes.”1 This was evident by many of the factors which were to blame for this collapse. Some of the factors that stood out the most were that the entire building was constructed illegally, it was built over a pond which was filled only with sand, and the building wasn’t constructed properly for its use or with proper materials.2 While the entire building was built without permission, the initial four floors were constructed with supporting walls.3 These four floors most likely met the needs of the building’s owner at the time, and if the building had collapsed at that point the loss would have been substantially less.…show more content…
