Throughout the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, many characters share similarities in personality or circumstance with the play’s protagonist, Prince Hamlet. 1. Hamlet’s father was killed by Claudius and laertes’s father was killed by Hamlet. Both Hamlet and Laertes wanted to avenge their father’s murder. However, while hamlet was full of self doubt, confused and a thinker, Laertes was quick to kill his father’s murderer. He did not think about the consequences. In the final scene of the play, Hamlet says “I’ll be your foil, Laertes: in mine ignorance your skill shall, like a star I’th’ darkest night, stick fiery off indeed. Pg 1643 (line 221- 224)
