There are many reasons why legalising cannabis can cause issues towards society and the government, for example the drug can be a gateway drug that would lead people to stronger drugs such as heroin. However, there are also pros for the society and government if the drug was to be legalised. In this report it will discuss both the strengths and weaknesses of legalising cannabis in the UK. First of all the report will look at the cons for legalising cannabis, such as the harms and dangers if smoking cannabis, as well as the impact it would have on young people lives. For example, legalising cannabis can result in young people leaving school without any qualification as well as problematic behaviour. Furthermore, the pros of legalising cannabis are that it can have a positive impact towards the police as well as the criminal justice system. As they would be able to focus on other important crimes by putting the money towards violence related crimes (DrugRehab, 2015). Licensing cannabis not only cuts down money from organisations such as policing, it would also benefit the government.
