Bernie Sanders should be elected as our next president. If we want this country to advance, then Sanders should be the one in the presidency of the United States. Sanders’s political experience is very successful. He is serving his second term in the United States Senate after winning re-election in 2012 with 71% of the vote. The sixteen years he was in the House of Representatives makes him the longest-serving independent member of Congress in the American history. During his career, he has focused on shrinking the middle class, the growing income, and wealth gaps in the U.S. When he was the chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, in 2014 he passed legislation reforming the VA health care system. Changing the system of all the student loans, increasing work study programs, and offering free tuition will encourage more students to continue on to higher education. In regards of student loans, Sander believes that is morally wrong and also bad economics. “It is insane and counter-productive to the best interests of our country, that hundreds of thousands of bright young people cannot afford to go to college, and that millions of others leave school with a mountain of debt that burdens them for decades. That must end” (Tasini, 9). If Sander was to become the president of the United States he will stop the federal government from making money off the students, and also decrease the student loan interest rates. Under his plan, Sanders will also increase the financial aid and work study programs for low-income students.
