In my view, the core principle that inform the foreign policy of the United States under Donald Trump is Reciprocity. In this case, reciprocity solves the collective goods problem by rewarding behavior that contributes to the group and punishing behavior that pursues self-interest at the cost of the group. However, reciprocity has both positive and negative effects. The positive effect is seen in the political world as “You scratch my back, then I will scratch your back” meaning if one country (United States) does a good deed for another country (China), then that country (United States) is expected in return a good deed from that country (China).
The negative effect with reciprocity is “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” meaning if one…show more content… Trump has it where he expects countries to have a good relationship with the United States when he is not showing other countries that he is willing to have a great relationship with them. International relationship is defined as a branch of political science concerned with relations between nations and primarily with foreign policies. Donald Trump foreign policies leads a coalition of strong and independent nations that promote security, prosperity, and peace in the borders of the United States and in other countries. In Donald Trump’s presidency, he states “Like all nations represented at this great forum, America hopes for a future in which everyone can prosper, and every child can grow up free from violence, poverty, and fear”(Davos,2018). This statement shows that the United States under Donald Trump administration is concerned about the economy of the world not just the United States. Donald Trump shows reciprocity throughout his foreign policies by ensuring that the Unites States is prospering as well as other countries that are in good relations with the United States. Another statement that was made by Donald Trump is “As the United States will reform to unleash jobs and growth, we are also working to reform the international trading system so that it promotes broadly shared prosperity and rewards to those who play by the rules” (Davos,2018). This shows that under Donald Trump’s foreign policy plans, he wants everyone that participate in trades to have a fair share of wealth. Reciprocity is all about giving something to receive something, and under the Trump administration this is what is
