The two novels being compared are “They Eyes of the Dragon” by Stephen King and “Lost on a Mountain in Maine” by Donn Fendler. These novels have differences and similarities that have recently been found. In this comparative essay, it will be found if the novels are more similar or different. The first difference that was noticed was the way the novels were written and told. In “They Eyes of the Dragon” it was as if the author had been narrating the story by using third person omniscient. On the very last page, on the second to last paragraph is an example, “Ah well - perhaps he did, and perhaps he didn’t; but I rather think he did, you know. You could tell “Lost on a Mountain in Maine” is for kids in the upper elementary grades through maybe a couple years through middle school. His writing is easy to understand for anyone of almost any age and knew the meaning to at least three-fourths of the words in the novel. Everyone knows how Stephen King writes and has read at least one of his books in their lifetime. So everyone should be accustomed to his usual twisted, dark, and strange concepts in his writing. “The Eyes of the Dragon” takes places hundreds of thousands of years ago and seems to take place in sort of the medieval times when there were Kings, Queens, peasants, and executioners. The diction in this novel is all written out to make it seem that the reader was in the story themselves living in the said time period. There is no actual way to explain how the words pertain to that certain time period, except for some of the words most people would usually associate with that time. Such as, “my Lord,” “your Majesty,” “my King,” “Ol’,” “the royal arms,” etc. The diction in the novels exemplify the different types of diction usage that could be involved in books such as…show more content…
The character development in both of the novels were astonishingly similar. The main characters in both of the books; Prince Peter in “The Eyes of the Dragon” and Donn Fendler in “Lost on a Mountain in Maine” made an incredibly similar character development. Prince Peter got thrown at the top of “The Needle” or a prison for being framed of murdering his father and spent five years there until he managed to escape and got rid of the actual murderer of his father. Peter came back stronger than ever and ruling the kingdom of Delain better than any King has ever done. When twelve year old Donn Fendler got lost on Mount Katahdin for nine days he had to survive the harsh weathers and on very little food. Fendler came back with a new experience that changed his life forever and also was mentally stronger than he ever was before.
