The term serial killer has many definitions depending on where you look and who you ask. Some definitions do not have enough detail, others only form a definition from a small sample of serial killers. The Oxford definition of a serial killer is “A person who commits a series of murders, often with no apparent motive and typically following a characteristic, predictable behaviour pattern.” This has a fair foundation for a definition but does not quite cover the entire concept of a serial killer. Britannica states: “Serial murder, also called serial killing, the unlawful homicide of at least two people, carried out in a series over a period of time… Serial murder is distinguished from mass murder, in which several victims are murdered at the same time and place.” This is close to what’s considered to the most accurate definition.…show more content…
Most male serial killers are often motivated by sexual gratification (Kaplan). On the other hand, most women have the motivation of resources and very few kill for sexual motives (Kaplan).
