REVENGE! Revenge is devilish! When Revenge gets to you, you want payback! Revenge is your enemy. The Cask of the Amontillado is revenge! The theme and the conflict go along side by side. Montresor taught us a countless lesson, not to want revenge or things will go bad. Montresor gave us the theme and showed up that revenge isn’t worth it. We all would like to know why he wants revenge. Will we ever know? We all have our guesses, but we probably won’t ever really know why. Why did he do this was this always in his mind? Montresor will he do it to another person. Is it just to Fortunato? Montresor did not think first. The theme is not to want revenge or things will go bad. As Montresor wanted revenge. The conflict is that Montresor wanted revenge and killed Fortunato. The theme goes along perfectly, Edgar Allen Poe taught that revenge is bad which Montresor easily showed us. The conflict which is how Montresor killed him, but he had no reason to make an extreme move to murder an innocent man. The conflict shows us the theme and tells us not to do what Montresor did. “My dear Fortunato, you are luckily met. How remarkably well you are looking today! But I have received a pipe of what passes for Amontillado, and I have my doubts.” Montresor always had his mind to have revenge and kill Fortunato. “Just as Montresor does not reveal his motive for the crime, other than to identify it as a crime of revenge, neither does he share with his audience his response when the deed is done.” He retained the secret to himself the whole time before kill Fortunato.
