Telemedicine and its Uses: According to the University OF Miami Miller School Of Medicine (“What is Telemedicine?,” n.d.) “Telehealth is the remote provision of healthcare services and health education, mediated by technology”. Using the latest telecommunications technology, telemedicine brings healthcare access to rural locations. There are several companies that have established tele health program. One of them is the Careclix, a proprietary web-based program, which utilizes telehealth primarily aimed at preventing Diabetes Mellitus (DM), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Hypertension, Asthma, and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). The medical providers with Careclix monitor and manage patients remotely from home or work. Patients with Diabetes Mellitus use Bluetooth enabled glucometer; CHF patients utilize the patient centric dashboard with a Bluetooth enabled weight scale; Hypertensive patients utilize the Bluetooth enabled sphygmomanometer (blood pressure cuff), and asthma and COPD patients utilize a Bluetooth enabled pulse oximeter (“CareClix Home,” 2013). In 1963, Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) established a telecommunication link at Boston Logan International Airport and five years later, it also added an interactive television, microwave link which provided microscopy, voice, electrocardiograph, stethoscope, and other services (MJ, 1996).…show more content…
Telemedicine enables cost-efficient, expert consultation and improved patient care. Using the telemedicine products, rural providers can capture and transmit medical data and images to their peers and specialists, whenever necessary.
