“Things are tough all over,” said Ponyboy, the main character in S.E. Hinton’s novel, The Outsiders. This book tells the story of a 14 year old boy (Ponyboy) who is in a gang and follows him through a tragedy, a escape, and a big fight. The poem by Robert Frost “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” is used in this book as a reminder that nothing good stays forever and to enjoy things while they last. Definitely one of the biggest parts is that Ponyboy lives with his brother Soda and Darry. As well as this if you you look even deeper into the book you can tell that the whole gang has a sort of community and family. Without family the book would just be about a bunch of boys running around a town and wreaking havoc. Throughout the whole book you can find bits of family. This gives it a very warm and comforting feel, that even though their life is far from perfect they still have family to fall back
