The human population consists of sponges. When we are born, we find ourselves immersed in an overflowing pool of knowledge and information, soaking up as many particles that happen to float our way. As we grow our learning becomes facilitated, and the ‘boundaries’ of our formal learning become more evident. We are placed in institutions, where we commence formal learning and we note its’ contrast to our previous education, which consisted greatly of making sense of our observations. As our journey continues, we choose to learn from taking classes and training, we choose to learn in post-secondary institutions, we choose to learn by surrounding ourselves in environments that promote academia and we choose to learn by immersing ourselves back into the vast pool of…show more content…
We learn, for the purpose of curiosity and personal interest, we learn to advance ourselves socially, or in the workplace, we learn for credentials; but we never stop learning. By the terms of the Constitution Act, 1867 Canadian learning, or education, is a matter of provincial authority, although, it often falls into the hand of local School Boards. Canada does not have a universal, or strict structure of its’ school system, instead schools tend to roughly follow a path of education from Kindergarten all the way to Graduate School and the work force, which can be followed through private or public routes. Each province tends to follow a system of moving through Elementary school, to Junior or Middle School, and finally to Secondary Education. The grades covered in each of these schooling levels vary by province, but generally the ‘middle years’ of 5-9 are put into their own transition “Junior” schools and Secondary school ends in grade 12.
