While Mt. Semotus has geographic features that both bless and curse its residents, the benefits of the surrounding geography outweigh the drawbacks. The crater where they reside it encircled by a continuous mountain range, making it close to impossible to leave. The geography of this nation creates many struggles for its people, limiting communication and the transfer of ideas. As a result, the civilization adapted and changed its ways to accommodate. Those same geographic features, however, also improve the quality of life for the civilization. The civilization that developed inside the crater of Mt. Semotus was blessed by its geographic surroundings. For instance, many benefits come from it being located in the crater of a dormant volcano. Semotus people. The climate is warm and humid, allowing for a variety of crops to flourish. The forest in between the two populations has a large assortment of vegetation, growing fruits similar to those found near the equator. Bananas, mangoes, papayas, pineapples, coconuts, guavas, dragon fruit, and avocados are all examples of plants that can be found in the forest. The warm climate also results in mild winters. A large part of the populations lives near the two lakes, and would be negatively influenced if something ever happened to them. The water in the lakes allows for communication and travel. It is also a major source of food and water for the people. The mild temperature prevents the lakes from freezing over. The hot springs located on the lake floor also provide an internal heating system for the water, keeping it at a warm enough temperature for fish to live in.
