The Character of Sir Gawain By keri faulkner The character in both pieces of literature, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Le morte D'Arthur, written by Sir thomas Malory, is one of the King Arthur knights named Sir Gawain. This strong character takes up on a sketchy challenge and succeeds in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. He feels that it should be him to take on the challenge instead of the King so, he is determined to behead the Green Knight. At this moment, Sir Gawain does not know the knight ha supernatural powers. In Le Morte D’Arthur, Sir Gawain is the one who offers a challenge to break swords with Sir Launcelot until one of them dies, in which neither of them succeed. Sir Gawain is so determined that the kingdoms went into battle and costed his life. Gawain is a likeable character because of his personality traits, such as being bold, accountable, and committed, throughout both pieces of literatures.…show more content…
In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the Knight offers a challenge and Sir Gawain tells the King, “Let this game me mine”(124). He beheaded the knight but he knight arose and Sir Gawain had to be bold and “fulfill his pledge” (p.216). He had to be bold when he “bows his head to take the blow”(p. 218). In Le Morte D’Arthur, Sir Gawain shows boldness because he is the one who offers a challenge to break swords with Sir Lancelot and his Knights. “ My lord Sir Lancelot: have you no knight who will dare to ride forth and break spears with me? It is I, Sir Gawain”(p.228). Even after being wounded he still offers the challenge. “ But once recovered, Sir Gawain rode up to the castle walls and challenged Sir Lancelot again” (p.229-230). Sir Gawain is described as being bold but also taking accountability in his actions. I think being bold has positive and negatives traits but overall it is a good
