These changes are fundamental to growing older and will have a dramatic effect on those who go through them. To go along with these changes adolescences will learn different viewpoints and form their own which will clash with one another. In the end of the day children will make choices based on those viewpoints and whether those choices are good or bad is a question that is hard to answer. Throughout the book there are many symbols given which have a lot of meaning attached to them. One such symbol is the wand which almost every character carries. Ollivander a wand maker states that no two wands are the same because of the core inside and that you will never get results with another wizard’s wand. This can be interpreted as that no two people are the same but something interesting happens when harry goes to buy a wand. A quote from Ollivander says that the “wand chooses the wizard” (85) but it’s interesting that the brother wand of the evil dark lord that murdered his parents and gave him a permanent scar would choose him as its wielder. Harry is shown to be uncomfortable with this and leaves quickly. It’s been established that the dark lord Voldemort did a lot of bad things so in that regard could it be that Harry will follow in his footsteps. The Sorting Hat can also be a symbol used in the book. The hat specifically look into the minds of children and places into a house depending on your personality. Earlier when Harry was talking to another character called Hagrid he was given some insight on the houses at Hogwarts which Harry would be attending. Initially Harry was going to be placed in Slytherin house which is known to produce dark people. Hagrid says that “There's not a single witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin” (80) and also that Voldemort was one. This
