Progressive era and Modern Era Reforms Comparative Essay By: Haley Kowalczyk, Through the years people have developed, and still are today. The Progressive era and The modern era may have differences and similarities. Some similarities are workers, safety, women, and manufacturing. In the 1900’s workers came from all around the world. The process of coming into the country was very difficult because they had to go through the process of being searched and questioned. Now a days its the same thing but, faster. You have to have a visa but, you still get searched and questioned. It's faster because they don't ask lengthy questions anymore they just want to know where you are from and where you are going. When workers arrived they were paid minimum wage and they are still paid minimum wage today. Minimum wage is the least amount you can get paid.Finally, there’s discrimination. Non-native born americans, were discriminated the most. They were given the bad jobs and were not treated as well. Women work the same amount of hours, but they still get paid less. Women weren't allowed to attend school. They had to stay at home and work in the house.
