Several novels have been adapted into movies, but they are never structured in the same way. The movies that have evolved from books are usually less descriptive with their details. This is expected as movies are usually 2 to 3 hours long, and books are read anywhere from 2 hours to 40 hours. Similarly, the movie Fahrenheit 451 had many role changes as well as comparisons to the book. The biggest role change was Clarisse’s transformation from a seventeen year old teenager in the book to a twenty year old classroom teacher in the movie. From the book, Clarisse is a seventeen year old girl who is very curious and doesn’t fit with the other kids of her age group. In the movie, she is a school teacher who takes on the characteristics of Clarisse in the book, and is looked at differently by society. This is different because, in the book Clarisse is a 17 year old curious oddball who is nagging for attention, and in the movie she is a 20 year old school teacher getting to know people. In the book Clarisse says,”You laugh when I haven't been funny and you answer right off. We might start a few books, and wait on the war to break the pattern and give us the push we need. The hound was present in the book and not the movie.” Mechanical Hound slept but did not sleep, lived but did not live in its gently humming, gently vibrating, softly illuminated kennel back in a dark corner of the firehouse.”, “it scrabble and seize his leg and stab the needle in for a moment before the fire snapped the Hound up in the air ” The hound injected Montag with its razor sharp needles before it was burst into bits of metal. This is important because Montag and many others are very scared of the hound and wouldn’t dare misbehave in front of Beatty in fear of the hound being sent after them. A lot of the comparisons are plot changing and have a big impact on how the story flows. Overall there are many similarities and differences between the movie and
