Hello flight 22, I am MSgt Dwayne Mayberry my historical leader that I want to inform you about is Former President Ronald Reagan. Close your eyes… Are they closed? Imagine walking to your car when someone jumps from the crowd boom shoots you. As they rush you to the emergency room what would be going thru your mind. Crazy stuff right! As they rolled him into the operating room about to bleed to death, he joked with the surgeons “I hope you all are republicans”. He told his wife quoting boxer Jack Dempsey “Honey, I forgot to duck”. I believe that President Reagan was a visionary leader throughout his 8 years of his presidency. This briefing will provide examples of his what Reagan did while he was office, I will then explain why Reagan was a visionary leader using principles I learned in Self-awareness block.…show more content…
Prior to his election in 1981 the country was in turmoil, everyone believed that America was on the decline. Until he step onto the podium and began to speak to the people. He provided them a vision for the future. He declared “for us to realize that we are too great a nation to limit ourselves to small dreams”. He brought pride back to being an American. He was dubbed the great communicator, which lead to a unnamed congressman saying, “I sure hope Reagan doesn’t go on the tube again and say no more sex”(greatness pg 26). He created a bond with the public and his presidential, like no president had done before. Reagan did not micromanage, he led. He displayed excellent delegations skills. He provided his policy and direction, allowed his subordinates to do their jobs. “Reagan was known to believe that he did not need to be involved, as long as his policy was being implemented”. Reagan had the ability to bring together good teams to get the job done. He knew the potential of empowerment and used his delegation skills
