Not every action requires a reaction, but sometimes people don’t understand that and let their emotions get the best of them, like in the play Romeo and Juliet. The theme in the play Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare is that you shouldn’t go to such extreme extents for someone you think you’re in love with. In the play, the main characters, Romeo and Juliet, did anything in their power to be with each other without their families finding out, which led to some negative consequences. The theme can be supported by the quote from Friar Lawrence: “Hold, then. Go home, be merry. Give consent to marry Paris.” (Romeo & Juliet 4.1.92-93) This quote gives an example on how Juliet is willing to lie to her own family in order to go be with Romeo. She is going to tell her family she is going to marry Paris even though she won’t. This can result in Juliet’s family becoming angry with her, not trusting her, and even disowning her.
