The poem “Circe’s Power” by Louise Gluck portrays a tone of contradictory. Circe is conflicted about how she feels for Odysseus and shows immediate emotion changes throughout the poem. For instance, she said “Showing you my/goodness” then changed course and started threatening them by saying “ I could hold you prisoner.” Through this Gluck showed how Circe was dealing with her emotions, she is being sweet and nice one second but, then completely turns threatening and manipulative. She also said that “Every sorceress is/a pragmatist at heart.” This is her way of saying she is logical and doesn't let emotions control her decision.
