For centuries people have been arguing if Romeo and Juliet has been seen as a play with no antagonist or ¨bad guy¨. I believe the world says the city is the antagonist in the play, maybe even Tybalt, Mercutio, Friar Lawrence, Friar John, The Capulet’s, The Montague’s, Prince Escalus, The Nurse, Paris, Benvolio, Peter, or even the apothecary are to blame. Others believe there’s no antagonist or protagonist in the play. I could see why people could think this. This play is truly an amazing work of literature. I believe the antagonist is none other than thy Romeo Montague and the beautiful Juliet Capulet. Before you go off on me saying, “How could these star crossed lovers be the antagonists in the play that’s all about them?” take a good moment to let me change your mind. The protagonist should be the one who brings everyone together solves a huge problem and ne’er in any way show how he can’t solve anything and decided to quit. Heroes bring us joy to the movie all he does is show us why he couldn’t be a true hero no matter how hard he would try. “'Tis the way, To call hers exquisite, in question more.
