Yonatan, the son of Shaul, was an important character in this story, and had a major role in David’s life. Throughout his lifetime, Yonatan accomplished many things, including winning wars, insuring the safety of Bnei Yisrael, and saving David’s life MANY times. Yonatan was a great warrior, a valuable soldier in Bnei Yisrael army as a general, and with whatever he did, he did it for the good of the country. Overall, Yonatan was seen as a protagonist in the story of the Navi, and is an interesting person to learn about.
As mentioned before, Yonatan is the son of Shaul, and has 5 siblings that are known to the reader: 2 sisters, Merab and Michal. And 3 brothers, Avinadav, Malchishua, and Eesh Boshet. Michal was madly in love with David, but sadly it says nowhere in the Navi, that David loved her back. She ultimately gets put with a man named Palti, as a punishment from her father, and a way for Shaul to keep the two apart. Usually this would be wrong, but here he was justified, because he managed to turn the war to Bnei Yisrael’s advantage. Another example of this quality, would be the numerous times he saved David’s life. In all of those cases, he was blatantly disobeying his father. Not only was Shaul his father, he was also the KING, and nobody in their right mind would disobey a direct order from the king. This also was justified because he was actually doing the right thing. Shaul was blinded by hate, and was doing the wrong thing. Without Yonatan, there would be no King David, or any Bnei
