CHAPTER 1 1.0 INTRODUCTION This research study is aimed at the application of Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works Second Edition (SMM2) among the Quantity Surveying (QS) students in different selected public universities in Malaysia. According to Standard Method of Measurement of Building Works Second Edition (SMM2) (2000) SMM acts as a uniform reference for all measurement works in construction industry. SMM is frequently used to procure general rules for the Quantity Surveyors (QS) in the preparation of Bills of Quantities (BQ) and for estimating purposes. Therefore, a proper method of delivery must be adopted in order to let the students understand the usage of SMM2. However, different higher institutions have different methods of teaching Measurement of Construction Works, whereby, SMM2 is used as reference for the mentioned subject. Furthermore, there are different ways to implement SMM2 in teaching, which can affect the understandings and interest of the students in different higher learning institutions. There are many ways to attract students’ interest on understanding SMM2. Therefore, this study is conducted in order to understand how SMM2 is being implemented in the student’s studies. This is because, the students throughout their whole learning process will use SMM2. The issue is the teaching method of SMM is suitable and understandable by the student. 1.7 SCOPE OF STUDY The research will be focused on the students in various public higher learning institutions, which are: I.
