In 1974 Milgram created the agency theory. Milgram’s idea suggested that individuals have two states of behaviour: 1 - the autonomous state, where an individual believes that they are in control of their actions, therefore take responsibility for their actions; 2 - the agentic state, where an individual obey others orders, shifting the responsibility of their actions to the authority ordering them.
Milgram further says that there are two factors for an individual to enter an agentic state:
