One foot in front of the other on the asphalt track; it was the simplest of motions but it consumed my mind. The passion for running was embedded in my blood and my genetic makeup: both my mom and dad ran track in high school, and my older sister was the fastest sprinter in New Jersey. Qualifying to compete in the track championships every year, I felt destined to become a runner as my middle school times improved. As high school approached, I looked forward to expanding my career and possibly even continue running on a team in college. Running was all I wanted in life. When I finally reached high school, track quickly fell on my priority list as other activities outside of my control consumed my time. Soon, a two hour practice every day
