“Take a spot on the pine, Blanket.” Ah, the lovely welcome from the 6’ 8” Coach Bishop to the basketball game. He called me the name Blanket because my name’s Ben Lankfer, which can go to Blankfer, which sounds like Blanket. Makes sense, somewhat, not really. Basketball season...full of great memories. All the practices have been for this moment. Now, not to brag but I played a lot; a lot of left bench. Afterall, this was my first year playing basketball, and let's face it, I was horrible. I had the most spirit, but not enough talent. We had several games before this game, but this game was unlike the others. This game was against probably the best team in the GRACEAC, Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM.) We started off with the classic…show more content…
The first quarter starts ticking down from 8 minutes. “Swoosh.” Just like that, IHM scored. IHM had recovered. The first line went back into the game. This game was definitely demanding all the energy we could supply, or at least the first line. At the end of the of the third quarter, the score was 20-22, IHM leading. It was anyone’s game at this point. In fact, I went in for one minute and magically scored. I was on the free throw line and I’m pretty sure my teammate, Dylan, mistook me for someone good and passed it to me. My adrenaline was pumping and as soon as the ball released from my hand, time slowed down until you heard the faint swoosh of the basketball net. I and everybody in the gym were surprised. We weren’t surprised however when IHM got the ball back, brought it down the court, scored, and I had to go back to left
