CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Introduction This chapter presents a literature review on Auto Ordering System (AOS) and discusses about the overview of the project and analysis review that involved in this project. The review from previous research that related to the AOS development is also stated in this chapter. 2.2 Overview of Auto Ordering System AOS is about developing a speech based system that can assist the visually impaired people when ordering a meal in a restaurant via the medium of speech interactively. Aim of the project is to develop an AOS for visually impaired people using Microsoft Visual Studio. It is easily accessible by user to navigate by simply touching the display screen. Thus, the ordering system based on touch screen is one of the solutions to avoid the time delay which will display the list of the menu in restaurants by using touched screen based digital menu ordering system using AVR microcontroller. Advance touch-screen based menu ordering system allows the customer to scroll the menu screen and could order the food or drink by touching on the LCD screen. Apart from this, the updating of menu and prices can be done easily. The figure shows the example of menu that provided by the restaurant and it price that displayed on the LCD screen. People rarely understand how is it produced and recognize. Speech Recognition (SR) is the translation of spoken words into text which also known as computer speech recognition. The process of enabling a computer to identify and respond to the sounds produced in human speech are the purpose of speech recognition. Speech recognition in Windows has designed with a special voice profile to recognize user’s voice and spoken commands. User can use their voice to control the computer with commands and the computer will respond to user and they can dictate text to the computer. Speech recognition is commonly used to operate a device, perform commands, or write without having to use a keyboard, mouse, or press any buttons. Based on figure below, user will be able to control the computer using microphone either headset microphone, desktop microphone or array microphone using voice. Therefore, to replace the existing application, the auto ordering system should be obliged to use speech based ordering system using voice recognition applications.
