The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill depicts the idea of love, betrayal, childhood, growing up, and family. This record breaking and Grammy winning album is soulful, informative, and playful. Throughout the album we get tidbits of a class, assumingly elementary or middle school students, discussing love which is Ms. Hill’s main focus. Keeping the youth educated on issues affiliated with love and relationships was something she always felt she needed to do. With The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, she achieved just that and even more. The album is essentially a ballad of her life, as she ties her past relationships into many of the songs she wrote. Her then recent experiences were a form of inspiration to write this album, and although they were not the best, the story she told was beautiful and moving to many others. She is definitely a brave soul showing her vulnerability to her listeners so willingly. Love was the one thing Lauryn was after since she was a little girl. She was fascinated with the idea of being married and settling with someone. What she did not expect was the hunt for love being so hurtful, heartbreaking, and draining.…show more content…
This is her explanation for the word miseducation. Lauryn’s definition of the word is the failure to understand the concept of certain things. Her miseducation of love became this beautiful lesson that she can use to inform everyone else. Everyone else’s miseducation on the inner city youth is something she needed to bring attention to. The miseducation and false perception of fame and fortune is brought to our attention as well. The overlying theme of this album is education. She wanted people to learn from her experiences and the stories she told within the songs. This has been one of the best albums released in hip hop history.
