Abstract— Technology progression, habitat concerns associated with centralised power generation is often messy and deregulation of electric utility industry are contributing the convenience for small distributed energy source system, in order to satisfy the on- site consumer in expansion of power demand. Microgrid is one of the key points for research in the field of distributed renewable energy source system. Microgrid that integrates with renewable energy sources is the answer for the crisis in increasing demand of power, T&D expansion which is vulnerable to natural or man- made interruption. In this paper, the transient operation of hypothetical example of microgrid is studied. Thus, the model with generation units (wind turbine) ,with a…show more content…
Due to the rapid growth in overall energy consumption and the diminishing of fossil fuels, the customer demand for new generation capacities and efficient energy production, delivery and utilization keeps rising. The micro grid concept has the potential to solve major problems arising from large penetration of distributed generation in distribution systems. Among these promising solutions, concept of microgrids has been paid attention by researchers more frequently in recent years. Thus, the concept of microgrid was introduced by R.H. Lasseter [1], and. Uno et al. [2] describe the supply and demand stability in micro grid for different connections. Later on the scheme based on power electronics devices with distributed generation (DG) is used to form micro grid [3]. The micro grid thus formed can work in grid connected mode as well as in islanded mode with the help of power electronic converter. Thus, the author develops the state-space modeling for such inverters based micro-grid [4]. It has become more important within modern power systems in terms of a possible means of achieving clean energy generation with updated and proven generation…show more content…
Further micro grid not only deals with power sharing or transient stability problems but also deals with over voltage, under voltage, oscillations, offset voltage, and so on. Hence Wu et al. describe the existing problems and the possible solution in micro grid [5]. Most of the microsources are interfaced through power electronic converters. Thus, microgrid has the characteristic of low inertia and extensive use of power electronic converters. Low inertia reduces the spinning kinetic energy of a system and the possibility of transient instability when the microgrid transfers between the grid connected and islanded mode. The avenue of the research explains that a little work is reported in the transient study of grid interactive microgrid. Thus, the paper presents a grid interactive microgrid using wind energy conversion system (WECS) as a distributed energy source system located at some distance far off from power plant. WECS provides a clean, viable, inexhaustible and reliable energy source and power generated by wind turbine (WT) remains almost constant when required during peak demand. The power electronics of the microsources generally has fast response but they may be susceptible to transient overloads. Thus, the transient stability of microgrid should be investigated before implementation and control strategy can be improvised. In this paper, an attempt will be made to study the power system issues under the transient
