The Los Angeles riots took place in 1992 Los Angeles after white police officers Stacy Koon, Theodore Briseno, timothy wind and Laurence Powell were acquitted of charges of police brutality against Rodney king in early March of 91. The riots began on April 29th. Thousands of people rioted over the course of 6 days following the announcement of the verdict. Assault, Arson, Murder and looting were what you would expect to see during those 6 days in Los Angeles, it began in South Central L.A and quickly spread throughout the city. 53 people died 10 of whom were shot dead by police, over 2,000 people were injured. Many residence were motivated to buy weapons to ensure their protection against further violence. In the events that led to the riots and afterword it was easy to see that the media was trying to focus on discrimination and making the riots look like displays of black rage against white people and against other ethnicities. Many people also blame the riots for the rising poverty in L.A. these conditions of poverty and the lack of jobs created a widespread feeling of depression and frustration too many citizens. Gentrification began in south central Los Angeles, which means that the price of houses in that area were lowered because of the people that lived there. The footage of Rodney king being beaten by police after a high speed chase caused outrage in cities especially where racial tensions were high. King was born in Sacramento California. Even after the riots king continued to have run-ins with the law, he was arrested in 1993 when he wrecked his car into a block wall. In 1995 he was arrested for a hit and run when he hit his wife with his car. King died on June 217th 2012 he was found by his wife at the bottom of their pool in his home in rialto California.
