People Make A Society Bad (People Are Inherently Evil) 5 out of every 10 adults think that people make a society bad. I am one of those 5. People make a society bad because as humans, they are inherently evil, and will make other people bad, and eventually turn the whole society to garbage. The other side of this argument would be that a bad society makes bad people. To prove that people that are inherently evil, Mr. Golding put examples in the Lord of the Flies that show that people make a society bad, and they are as follows: 1) Simon’s murder, 2) Jack causing division, and 3) Roger’s torture of everyone and his murder of Piggy Simon’s murder shows that people are inherently evil because, on pages 152 and 153, the boys brutally murder Simon, for no apparent reason. “A thing was crawling out of the forest. He tortures kids by kicking down their sandcastles, throwing rocks at them, and murdering Piggy, with a boulder of all things! “Roger led the way straight through the castles, kicking them over, burying the flowers, scattering the chosen stones.” (Golding 60} This quote just shows how evil Roger was from the beginning. He kicked down little kids’ sandcastles for crying out loud! When Roger does this, it shows that he is evil, and it brings down ‘the bar’ of society just a little bit. Then he had to go and murder Piggy, and throw a spear at Ralph just to help his evil along “Another spear, a bent one that would not fly straight, went past his face and one fell from on high where Roger was.” (Golding 181} This shows that killing one person isn’t enough to feed Roger’s ‘thirst’ for evil.
