Led Zeppelin Today, I get the task to discuss why Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. In this text, I will explain how Led Zeppelin started as a band, the achievements they accomplished together, the impact that Zeppelin have had on my life, and how they are remembered and influence modern listeners and musicians. Being such a broad subject much will be left out, but I hope to highlight some of the high points about the career of this once in a lifetime hard rock group. Jimmy Page envisioned from the group to have an electric blues sound mixed with acoustic folk. They were to be a versatile group with much experimentation. Page first named the quad of musicians as the New Yardbirds. This was their name for about the first six shows they performed until John Entwistle from The Who came up the name Led Zeppelin. The term Led Zeppelin comes from an English saying meaning a plane will come down like a bomb. Like a Led Zeppelin. There first performance under the name Led occurred at Surrey University in England on October 17th, 1968. Shortly after, on Nov 13th 1968 Zeppelin signed a contract with Atlantic Records (The Led Zeppelin Story). Zeppelin toured in England, but like many British groups, they were not that successful in England, so they decided to go on tour in the United States and that is when the bands popularity took off. They toured for about two months in America to close out the year of 68 and start the year of 69. During this tour they released their first album to “Led Zeppelin” to the American public. I find it ironic that what made them so great also took the group down. That is, the reckless behavior and risk taking demeanor, mixed with the unity of being one team. It is safe to assume that bands now days aspire to have just a piece of success that Led Zeppelin secured. What they accomplished as a band, how they have changed the music industry, and how they affect people’s lives is a special combination that many seek, but few
