Secondly, being a cheer coach for Upward has taught me how to be a leader. In the past, I have been someone who likes to do more following than leading. Most of the time it seems easier to have someone else tell you what needs to be done, rather than just doing it yourself. While coaching I had to be able to listen to those around me, the cheerleaders, along with giving instructions. Listening to what people have to say has always been a strength of mine, but it is also important to be able to give opinions and insights. By being a leader in the Upward program I was taught that I am able to do both; listen and lead.
