John Wayne was born May 26, 1907 in Winterset, Iowa. The iconic actor and all around tough guy was not given that name at birth, Marion Robert Morrison was his given name. He received his first leading role in “the big trail” (1930) working with john ford. He got his next big break in stage coach (1930). His career as an actor took a leap when he worked in the red river in (1948). Wayne won his first academy award in 1969 and died of cancer in 1979.
