Joan of Arc: Maid of Orléans History is littered with impressive characters, brave acts, and senseless courage. Few historical figures stand out among the rest, remembered as heroes, martyrs, and saints. Due to her faith in God and patriotism to France, Joan of Arc was able to accomplish impossible acts of bravery and showed relentless determination under incredible odds. Joan of Arc is now remembered as a courageous and spiritual martyr who played a vital role in Frances’s victory over the English, during the Hundred Years’ War, because of her aggressive tenacity and fearless leadership. With Joan’s integrity proven and some insistence from Charles’ mother in law, a 16 year old peasant girl was given an army. As an uneducated daughter of a peasant, to even be in the presence of royalty must have been overwhelming. It is obvious how charismatic and moving Joan must have been to convince a royal court of France to give up an army to support the plan of a female. Posthumously Joan’s contemporaries would praise her and liken her to an angel, “like an angel, Joan mediated between God and humans, conveying to her countrymen God’s position in the Hundred Years’ War and undertaking military feats on his behalf.” (Sullivan p.31). Joan of Arc’s presence must have been unlike any they had ever seen for her to gain their support. Despite the odds, stereotypes, and risks Joan of Arc was given a French Army to try her hand at winning back the country she called home. Joan would go about delegations with the English in a unique way. She wrote many times to try to urge the conquerors to leave without bloodshed, referring to herself as “France’s military leader” (Castor p. 107). The
