In today’s growing field of medical occupations, Occupational Therapy is one of the top fields of medical employment. According to the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (AOTA), Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy Assistants “help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations).” Common practices of occupational therapy include helping patients, ranging from newborns to senior citizens, with disabilities, injuries, and experiences with physical and cognitive changes. For this research paper, I will be writing about my career field of choice, Occupational Therapy Assistance specializing in Pediatric care. Occupational Therapy Assistance work with Occupational Therapists by determining and assessing patients’ needs and goals, developing and planning treatments and procedures, and documenting the progress of patients’ treatments. Pediatric Occupational Therapy is occupational therapy specialized for newborns and young children. “Many occupational therapy assistants choose to help children thrive in the “occupations” of childhood—learning, playing, and growing,” writes the AOTA.
