Estella is a puppet controlled by fate. One reason of this is that she was born into a male dominated society. At that time, women had no control over their lives. Women were restricted in what they wore and how they could act in public. A woman's main job was to take care of the home and their children. Men had all the power, running the government and most, if not all, of the businesses. Another reason is that Estella was shipped away for schooling. In the words of Miss Havisham, she is "Abroad, educating for a lady; far out of reach." Estella being controlled by fate here is shown in the fact that she had no choice in going.
